Post numero uno is imminent so I wanted to share a little about me, why this Substack exists and what I’m hoping readers can get out of it.
I’m a marketing consultant working with independent (often founder-forward) consumer brands through my consultancy Specio on customer research and strategy. I love this work. I love when this work realizes into a success story or an ah-ha moment for a brand. I intentionally work with brands that seek to understand their customers as human beings.
I believe marketing is an exercise in empathy.
I believe a rising tide lifts all boats.
As a human being, one of the things that makes me, me is my love of (over)sharing — it’s how I connect with others and what really lands in my soul when I meet a new person.
But in my work world — in business and marketing — there can be a lot of gatekeeping. I hate that part.
We’re going to focus a lot on the business of community here.
The Nic is an outlet for sharing insights into what community and human-centricity really means in the world of marketing. It’s a conversation I can add value to, an area of marketing that is evergreen, transcends channels and is key to sustainable growth.
They’re also hugely overused terms that I’ve heard thrown around many an HQ without consideration for what it really means.
Through 1-1s with founders and experts, deep-dives into the anatomy of campaigns and more, I hope The Nic becomes a spark for how to build growth for your own brand.
Thank you for being here, and I hope these conversations we are about to have are expansive for you 🌱
